Na Kai Ewalu – 10 Oct. 2009
October 15, 2009 by admin
Whoa, you all should have seen the young Hawaiian stallions Vicky summoned for today’s episode of Na Kai ‘Ewalu. Michael Bernardini, Blaine Benevedes, and Jaridan Choy were soulful too talking about their passion for medicinal plants and their new ‘Ahahui la’au Lapa’au, the Hawaiian Herbal Medicine Society. Based at Kamakakuokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at UH, the hui hopes to spread the word about Hawaiian herbal medicine and encourage its use and plant cultivation throughout the community.
The great part is the spiritual aspect of healing, and the guys had cool examples of how they use plants. For example, Michael uses an alcohol and nioi (chili pepper) mixture to help heal nicks from surfing—sounds pretty rugged. Check out some of their other stories too! And if you still want more, they’re on facebook or try http://www.maoliworld.com/profile/KaAhahuiLaaulapaau .
The guys chose this ‘olelo no’eau for the week: He ‘a’ali’i ku makani mai au; ‘a’ohe makani nana e kula’i. The translation: I am a wind-resisting ‘a’ali’i; no gale can push me over, meaning, I can hold my own even in the face of difficulties. Michael, Blaine and Jaridan will find inspiration in these words for spreading the message about Hawaiian healing herbs. We hope you will be strengthened by these thoughts, too, as you go about your week. Have a great one!
