We just let it flow this Saturday and the music was great! We sampled tracks from new cd’s including Amy Hanaiali’i’s album of duets called Friends and Family of Hawai’i—we heard her smokin’ duet with Henry Kapono. And we heard the first track from Keli’i Kaneali’i’s new cd, Kaua’i—the track we heard was Kalihiwai, but you have to check it out, the whole cd is massive, as you would expect from this musician, one of the original Hapa duo.
Kaho’onei told us a little about his new job at OHA, where he will be following legislative issues. A couple of areas that he knows will be coming up: back rent on ceded lands and tuition waivers for Native Hawaiians in the UH system.
Vicky shared some of the events at ‘Iolani Palace in memory of the overthrow since that was the beginning of the process that led to statehood. Her ‘olelo no’eau:
‘Aho’oko ‘ia mai ko’u ‘i’ini
Me ku’u lahui maka’ainana
O ka pono kaulike ke hana ‘ia
I ku’ikahi like me ka maluhia
My desire shall be fulfillled
With those of my common people
That justice may be done
That unity and peace may exist
