Na Kai Ewalu – 4 July 2009

July 2, 2009 by admin

We knew everybody was shopping, cooking, getting the holiday parties together so we kept the music up front for this enjoyable Saturday together. Last year Kaho’onei was talking about how informative and well run the Native Hawaiian Convention was, so we did take the opportunity to let you know about it early this year. Scheduled for August 25-27 at the Hawai’i convention Center, this 8th annual convention is the brainchild of the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA). Robin Danner, founder, President and CEO of the CNHA was our guest at the kitchen table today. Reach them at www.hawaiiancouncil.org or call 808-596-8155 or toll free 800-709-2642.

Robin’s cool experiences with Alaskan and other native peoples on the continent are part of her commitment to leadership networking in order to share ideas and search for best practices together. The CNHA also offers financial assistance through the Hawaiian Way Fund and their Community Loan Fund. Robin is encouraging Native Hawaiians of all ages to enter a writing contest co-sponsored by CNHA, “Native Insight: Thoughts on Recession, Recovery and Opportunity.” The idea is to find out what insights traditional cultures might have for us today! Find out more at www.nativeinsight.org.

Our ‘olelo no’eau this week: E kuhikuhi pono i na au iki a me na au nui o ka ‘ike. Vicky explained, in teaching, the small details are as important as the large ones to do the job well.
