March 4, 2009 by admin
This is one Saturday where we really would have loved to have all of you with us around the old kitchen table for the laughing and straight talking that went on behind the scenes. Our guest, musician and Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts President Ku’uipo Kumukahi, told stories from her childhood on the Hamakua coast of Hawai’i island and spoke from the heart about her experiences as a musician and a veteran in the Hawaiian music scene. She entertains every friday night 6-7:30 at the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki, which she says is becoming a true becon for Hawaiian culture with Manu Boyd at the helm. Don’t forget about the Na Hoku Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Awards banquet luncheon coming up Sunday March 15th at the Sheraton Waikiki. Honorees are Eddie Kamae and the Sons of Hawai’i, Keola and Kapono Beamer, Cecilio and Kapono, John Pi’ilani Watkins, and George Helm. For tickets, contact HARA at 593-9424 or go to their website http://www.nahokuhanohano.org/cms/index.php. This year’s Na Hoku Hanohano Awards is set for June 9th.
‘olelo no’eau:
‘Ipo shared her favorite ‘olelo no’eau with us: le’ale’a kalaikalai manumanu i ka loa’a. She said her father used to tell her that, with the idea being: have fun, and do it right the first time.
